St Mark the Evangelist: the gospel for today   by John Suggit

This booklet was written to celebrate the centenary of St Mark’s parish in Athlone ( 1901-2001).  Copies are still available at R70 each + R48.75 postage.

Some Comments on the book:

the book offers something to theologians, pastors and bible study groups.  Particularly outstanding is its relevance to the South African context….

John Suggit shows how openness tot he claims of Jesus in Mark leads to new and unexpected possibilities for those who have the courage to follow as his disciples, even when they fail.

Thoughts for the Week  Year B

A series of meditations based on Bible passages from the Lectionary for Year B

Advent to Christ the King  prepared by the Revd. David Gooday

Survey for Feedback on Celebrating Sunday Trial Use

Revising APB 1989  Update #12

A Prayer Book for Southern Africa Tomorrow – Today

Under Southern Skies – In an African Voice

Celebrating Sunday

On-line Survey of the Trial Use Period

Eastertide 2017: 16 April-4 June 2017

Greetings in the name of the risen Christ!

On behalf of the Secretariat of the Anglican Prayer Book Revision Sub-committee we trust that you are well and whole-heartedly commend you to God’s life-giving Spirit this season of Pentecost!

As you know, parishes throughout ACSA were encouraged to make use of materials from Celebrating Sunday during Eastertide by identifying “trial use parishes” in which the new liturgies could be used. Hopefully you have been able to experiment with the new liturgy and the time has come to ask for your feedback. This will help the Prayer Book Revision Sub-committee, and others involved, move forward in continuing to shape the new liturgy.

Below are two links to online surveys on the survey platform Survey Monkey. The first is a link to the “Rectors” survey and the second to the “Congregational” survey.

We would like to hear from everyone and anyone who used or had experience of Celebrating Sunday.

Rectors, Worship Leaders, Musicians, etc., are invited to use this link to access the short survey:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NJDFNGS

Parishioners, worshippers and anyone who has exeprienced Celebrating Sunday ‘from the pew’ are invited to use this link to access the short  Congregational survey:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/W6P2BWY

The surveys will take a few minutes to complete and the data gathered will greatly assist the Prayer Book revision process. The survey wull close on 30 June 2017.

Thank you for supporting this important work in the life of God’s Church.

This Update was prepared by the Prayer Book Revision Secretariat:

The Reverend Ashley Meyer, Rector, Holy Trinity, Bothasig, Diocese of Saldanha Bay

The Very Mcebisi Pinyana, Dean of Mthatha

The Reverend Matthew Wright, Rector, St Paul’s Scottburgh, Diocese of Natal

The Revd Andy Kruger, Priest-in-Charge, Trinity Church, Cranford, Diocese of New Jersey, USA

The Very Reverend Bruce Jenneker, Rector, All Saints, Durbanville, Senior Priest of the Diocese of Saldanha Bay

Apply now for education grants under RSTWT

Applications are invited for educational grants for children of clergy from the Robert Selby Taylor Will Trust.

The deadline for this year’s applications is July 31, 2017.  However, applications for other assistance from the Trust can be made throughout the year.

Applications have to be submitted to Bishopscourt, endorsed by the Bishop of the Diocese in which the clergy applying for a grant are licensed.

The grants do not cover the costs of clergy studies or pre-school and preparatory education.

The Robert Selby Taylor Will Trust Fund should be regarded as ‘last resort’ rather than first port of call for funding.
