Survey for Feedback on Celebrating Sunday Trial Use

Revising APB 1989  Update #12

A Prayer Book for Southern Africa Tomorrow – Today

Under Southern Skies – In an African Voice

Celebrating Sunday

On-line Survey of the Trial Use Period

Eastertide 2017: 16 April-4 June 2017

Greetings in the name of the risen Christ!

On behalf of the Secretariat of the Anglican Prayer Book Revision Sub-committee we trust that you are well and whole-heartedly commend you to God’s life-giving Spirit this season of Pentecost!

As you know, parishes throughout ACSA were encouraged to make use of materials from Celebrating Sunday during Eastertide by identifying “trial use parishes” in which the new liturgies could be used. Hopefully you have been able to experiment with the new liturgy and the time has come to ask for your feedback. This will help the Prayer Book Revision Sub-committee, and others involved, move forward in continuing to shape the new liturgy.

Below are two links to online surveys on the survey platform Survey Monkey. The first is a link to the “Rectors” survey and the second to the “Congregational” survey.

We would like to hear from everyone and anyone who used or had experience of Celebrating Sunday.

Rectors, Worship Leaders, Musicians, etc., are invited to use this link to access the short survey:

Parishioners, worshippers and anyone who has exeprienced Celebrating Sunday ‘from the pew’ are invited to use this link to access the short  Congregational survey:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/W6P2BWY

The surveys will take a few minutes to complete and the data gathered will greatly assist the Prayer Book revision process. The survey wull close on 30 June 2017.

Thank you for supporting this important work in the life of God’s Church.

This Update was prepared by the Prayer Book Revision Secretariat:

The Reverend Ashley Meyer, Rector, Holy Trinity, Bothasig, Diocese of Saldanha Bay

Apply now for education grants under RSTWT

Applications are invited for educational grants for children of clergy from the Robert Selby Taylor Will Trust.

The deadline for this year’s applications is July 31, 2017.  However, applications for other assistance from the Trust can be made throughout the year.

Applications have to be submitted to Bishopscourt, endorsed by the Bishop of the Diocese in which the clergy applying for a grant are licensed.

The grants do not cover the costs of clergy studies or pre-school and preparatory education.

The Robert Selby Taylor Will Trust Fund should be regarded as ‘last resort’ rather than first port of call for funding.

Where is the New Prayer Book?

The ACSA Liturgical Committee has become aware that there is a widespread assumption that a ‘new’ Prayer Book has been produced and it is available now.

Many of those placing orders for Celebrating Sunday, the new experimental supplemental liturgical resource with materials for Advent through Pentecost have done so assuming that it is the New Prayer Book.

The Committee is calling upon everyone involved in liturgy and the leadership of worship, to help correct this misunderstanding.

Expecting a New Prayer Book is an appropriate eagerness that we welcome-  however, such an expectation will only be met after many years of hard work.

The New Prayer Book has been called for by the Synod of Bishops and Provincial Synod – and is a goal which the Liturgical Committee is diligently pursuing.

However revising APB 1989 is a process, one that will require the involvement of the whole Church, much work, and many years. During those years the Liturgical Committee will be producing several supplemental liturgical resources authorised for experimental, trial use. Celebrating Sunday is the first in this series of publications.

These supplemental resources will be the result of a process of wide consultation among the people of ACSA and will reflect the diverse styles of worship common to our Church while maintain the characteristic features of Anglican Worship.

The ACSA Liturgical Committee looks forward to continued communication with everyone involved in the worship we offer and with eagerness anticipates your involvement in this exciting and historic process of Revision and Renewal.
