The African Crucifixion on display in Johannesburg Cathedral

The African Crucifixion

This magnificent beaded work of art is entitled “The African Crucifixion.”    Originally commissioned by an Anglican church in this Province, it has recently returned from England where two cathedrals and the National Gallery expressed interest in buying it.   A great many people believe that it would be sad for such a work of art to be lost to this country, and the work is on loan to the diocese for a period of five months while a group of Anglicans are trying to raise the necessary funds to purchase it as a gift for the diocese of Johannesburg.   If this happens the work will have pride of place at St Joseph’s Home, Sophiatown.

It is currently on display at the Cathedral Church of St Mary the Virgin.  All are encourged to go and see it.   For further information contact the Cathedral Office at 011 333 2537
